Tour de France 2017

 

Itinerary for the Tour week 8 - 15 July 2017

Sat 8th: If you are flying into Lourdes or Pau then its an early flight, we will be there to meet you with the team from Pyrenees Cycling for the short transfer to Bareges. Time to get your bikes set up on arrival and get out for an afternoon ride. Transfers can also be made from Lourdes train station.

Sunday 9th: A ride around the Tourmalet, the Col a 100km round trip ride, vehicle support as always will be on hand should there be any mechanicals or tired legs(hopefully not at this early stage)! Your ride leaders will point out intersting points of view and answer any questions you may have along the ride. Back in time to see the Tour finish on the TV in the afternoon.

Monday 10th: A ride up to Cauterets stage of the 2015 Tour through main square in Cauterets, we will be tackling the short but steep climb of Cambasque scene of the Lemond - Fignon battle of the 1989 Tour, returning for those that would like to do an extra climb of Luz Ardiden always a favourite of the Tour sadly not this year.

Tuesday 11th: Starting to climb from of Luz St Sauveur we head up the valley past the Pic du Bergons as we ride close to the edge of the Gave du Gavarnie towards the village of Gedre this is the easy part once into Gavarnie village we swing a right and head up the Port du Boucharo 2230m up to the Spanish border a total of 32kms. On our return should those of you that want to do the last climb of the week the Cirque de Troumouse is waiting for you a quiet but tough climb getting you up to above 1900m is a great finish on one of the not so well known climbs of the Pyrenees.

Wednesday 12th: Today we catch our first glimpse of the Tour finishing in Pau an early start for those that want to ride out can, across the ride out to the climb of the Aubisque from the eastern ascent, firstly we take in the Soulor. With great views of the Cirque du Litor and the vultures, this ride has a support vehicle to pick you up or drop you off further towards Pau if you prefer not to ride the full 115kms, this can be arranged with your guides on the day depending on how you are feeling and if the weather is good.

Thursday 12th: We will be riding across to watch the finish at Peyragudes another early start for those that want to ride out can across the Tourmalet. Alternatively we will be running vehicles across and walking to the foot of the Aspin both sides for the short ride to the Pyrenesourde. You can finish your day back at the Aspin or you can climb the dark side Tourmalet or carry on to climb the eastern ascent. We also get a support vehicle to pick you up on route back to Bareges this can be arranged with your guides on the day depending on how you are feeling and if the weather is good.

Friday 13th: A day of rest and relaxation or you can ride the climb of the Hautacam with the group 80km day with 1600m climbing.

Your week in in the Pyrenees includes

  • Half board accomodation.
  • Breakfast every day and a 3 course evening meal every day except Wednesday our night off.
  • Transfers to and from Lourdes, Pau airports and Lourdes Train Station.
  • Vehicle back up / assistance should you need it.
  • Energy bars and drinks for your rides.

Does not inlcude:

  • Flights to and from the Pyrenees.
  • Any lunches during the day or coffee stop drinks
  • Any bar drinks or wine on a evening in the Hotel.
